We had an amazing time at Wakestone Rock Quarry Tuesday. The kids came back with excellent examples of granite. The Geologist told us the quarry is actually part of one big rock that is 50 miles long, 15 miles deep, and 25 miles wide. The kids observed many pieces of granite and were able to point out mica, quartz, and feldspar. They have been mining on this site since 1970. When we were on our way out the bus drove onto a scale and the bus weighed 25 thousand pounds. There was a lot of rock on the bus!!!! Here are some pictures of what we saw. I also attached some Utubes of Quarry Blasts under Earth Materials sites.
