Yesterday, we learned about Word Smart (Verbal-Linguistic Intelligence). We worked on our reading stamina and remembering how to do Read To Self from Kindergarten. Students also made a collage of pictures to help us when we don't know what to write about. A technology link made was a Wordle of things we want to do in first grade. The students really loved this website and it would be a great site to go to together. Here is the link: http://www.wordle.net
Today we learned about being Self Smart (Intrapersonal Smart). People who are strong in this intelligence are very in touch with their feelings, likes/dislikes, and often like to have time alone. Another characteristic of Self Smart is having many hobbies. We also discussed that many people can go between being People Smart and Self Smart depending on the situation. Student's loved the book, I Like Myself, about a little girl who loves herself for all that she is without worry of others impressions. Each child received a plastic gem to remind themselves of how special they are.The favorite part of the day was when each student made a Super Hero Mask to reflect their own personality. They also created names for their Super Hero self. We took a walk around the building with our masks on. Today we focused on learning our first Multiple Intelligence. We explored how to be People Smart (Interpersonal Intelligence) by getting to know our classmates. People who have a strong Interpersonal Intelligence make friends easily, enjoy socializing, We discussed the characteristics of being People Smart, and how it can be easy for some people and difficult for others. Here are a few activities we experienced today. Each table worked as a team to create a super hero setting. Then, team members came up with a table name to describe their super hero city. Some of the table names were: Dangerous Night, Star World, Super Hero Land, Raleigh City, Power City, and Twilight City. Students worked well together and shared all the materials. Students walked around the room and met new friends. They had to find at least 2 people for each section on our People Smart Scavenger Hunt. Some of the descriptions they were looking for were: someone who has 6 letters in their name, can count to 30, likes chocolate ice cream, etc. This gave students an opportunity to talk with some friends they don't know much about. I can't wait to greet all my new students and parents in the morning. I have been working all weekend preparing for your return. We are going to have a BLAST this week. Stay tuned for pictures of some of the fun activities we are experiencing!!!
