Three years ago, my class experimented with using Class Dojo. Class Dojo allows me to record positive and negative behavior via an app on my phone or Ipad. Parents have access to a report every Friday. Parents who register, will also be able to check how their child is doing at any point during the day. Parent feedback was positive and students were more aware of their behavior. When I click a positive behavior, students know someone is earning a point and it leads to students thinking about how they can earn more points. Students earn privileges or prizes with points earned. I also use the Class Story to post cool things happening in the classroom, as well as, reminders. Problem Solvers Club
About 10 years ago, I began looking for ways to help children with social skills and to
lessen disruptive behavior in the classroom. I use a combination of ideas
from the book Conscious Discipline by Becky Bailey and Positive
Discipline For The Classroom, by Dr. Jane Nelson, Lynn Lott, and H. Stephen
Glenn. Occasionally we will have a "Problem Solvers Club" to discuss any issues in the classroom and to help promote any social skills I feel the kids need to be successful in school or with friends.

The Fortress Of Solitude
In sticking with our Super Hero theme, I created a calm down space where students could go to be alone. In this space, students can go and use strategies I have taught them to calm down. They may also go here if they have had a tough morning at home and need some alone time. Students also go here to work out problems with their classmates. Superman's Fortress of Solitude is a treasured and respected space in the classroom. Many times students will reach out to each other when they see a friend there. This space teaches self control, problem solving, and compassion for others.
